Pogues Station (ruins)
Nevada

Site of Pogues Station south of Eureka, Nevada.  From a website:

Nearby springs was the only source of water for miles on Pritchard’s fast freight from Palisade to Pioche. Stations were set up on the stage line every 25 miles. The station itself was not fancy but it was a substantial adobe structure. Within a year after the station was built in 1871, Jim Pogue, the station attendant had built a barn and a complete complement of corrals. After Pogue died in 1915, rumors ran wild that he had buried a fortune in gold coins nearby. Over the years, treasure hunters have dug holes all over the site and destroyed the old station, all to no avail. Only faint adobe and stone walls now mark the remote site.
